  Community Partners: Algonkian Elementary

  The future is in reading. Recently, Patient First partnered with Algonkian Elementary School near the Sterling, VA location to sponsor their school literacy efforts. Patient First has longstanding partnerships with several school in the Greater D.C. area. The school used the donation to purchase decodable books which were needed in all grade levels. Decodable books encourage children to sound out words using decoding strategies rather than guessing from pictures or predicting from other cues. Algonkian Elementary is grateful for the donation from Patient First to help the readers of the future. "The books have been successful in helping our students become better readers," said Brian Blubaugh, Algonkian Elementary School Principal.

  James W. Lilley, Jr. Elementary School

  James W. Lilley, Jr. Elementary School There’s no denying that since March 2020, the pandemic has taken its toll on the emotional health of students and educators everywhere. James W. Lilley, Jr. Elementary School in South Jersey, near our Sicklerville center, tackled things head on and sought ways to raise spirits. Accordingly, the have established a “PRIDE” (Positivity, Respect, Integrity, Determination and Effort) program at the school; and, they are recognizing student achievements each month. Patient First’s donation helped the school purchase “Paw Power” spirit wear T-shirts for PRIDE student leaders. Each month Lilley students are excited to learn who will be recognized from each classroom and rewarded with a special luncheon and their T-shirt. Many students have already been recognized, and this program will continue throughout the school year. Students have been excited to wear their T-shirts during the last Friday each month which is “Spirit Day” at the school.   McIntosh Elementary School Rhythm and Wellness Night

  McIntosh Elementary School, located in Newport News, VA, hosted its inaugural Rhythm and Wellness Concert, Bookfair, and Fitness Night on February 29th. Led by the incredible talents of the school's second and third graders, students and their families sang, read, danced, drummed, stretched and learned as they embraced the beat, ignited their fitness journey, and delved into the world of literature all in one unforgettable night. Around every corner of the school was an activity to participate in. Patient First, who was positioned in the front of the school, offered parents, teachers and administrators free blood pressure screenings, many of whom took advantage of the opportunity.  The school itself is a bilingual school. Approximately, 15% of their student population is Hispanic. Each activity for the evening was offered in both English and Spanish. Many of the families who attended the event were not aware of Patient First, despite our Denbigh center being approximately 1 mile from the school.   PEP Meeting at Leesburg Elementary School

  On January 11, we had the privilege of participating in a PEP(Parents as Educational Partners) meeting at Leesburg Elementary School, marking the beginning of our partnership with them. The PEP meetings serve as a crucial outreach to the community, engaging parents with valuable information.  This month’s focus was on health, featuring a presentation by the school nurse addressing important topics on when not to send children to school. I presented our “Are You Too Sick for School” information. Approximately 65 parents attended the event with their children, creating a vibrant and supportive atmosphere. Following my presentation and the nurse’s session, there was a Zumba class. Additionally, the school provided food and free winter clothing, emphasizing their commitment to the community’s well-being.  The event served as a powerful connection with the community, fostering positive relationships and reinforcing our commitment to the well-being of Leesburg Elementary School and its families.

  Cooper Lane Elementary Community Block Party

  Cooper Lane Elementary School and the community held their Block Party on Friday, August 25th. Patient First is a proud sponsor of this event, and happy to be back! The event was held outside at the school's blacktop/playground area. It was a very hot and sunny day, but in spite of the heat we had lots of families lined up around noon. There was music playing for the entirety of the event, as well as snacks and free backpacks. Parents and students were also able to meet and greet their teachers.  Our Landover location is a mile down the road, so everyone that came to our table knew of Patient First! We heard great things about the care we provide, and how smooth-sailing everything is. We got a lot of questions regarding what school immunizations we provide and our self-pay pricing. Overall, we had a great time, everyone was so kind and grateful.  Patient First wishes an amazing school year to all the teachers and students at Cooper Lane Elementary! We hope to see you again next year.

  Jenkins Elementary School

  Jenkins Elementary School in Newport News, Virginia is an ongoing partner of Patient First.  This school understands the importance of reading and focuses on initiatives to not only support the students, but also impact the community.  This year, Jenkins used their donation to purchase books for their book vending machine.  With this machine, students have access to brand new books at their fingertips.  Jenkins also participates in the Books on Bikes program.  This platform allows the children to ride their bikes while delivering books to members of the community.  There are so many great benefits to reading, and it is something that we all can enjoy.  Patient First would like to say "hats off" to Jenkins Elementary for positively impacting its students and the community!
