  Landover Hills, MD National Night Out

  Landover Hills, MD held its annual National Night Out, which is organized by the local Police department. National Night Out is a community-police awareness raising event in the United States every year. This year there was face painting and arts and crafts activities. In addition, they had the bomb squad and robots present. Located near our Landover Hills, MD location, this event drew families in the local area. They loved our Band-Aids, hand sanitizer and especially the Patient First yo-yo’s. We would to thank Landover Hills Police department for inviting Patient First to come out to this event. We look forward to seeing you all again next year.

  Algonkian Elementary Invention Night: Handwashing Demonstration

  More than 400 people attended Algonkian Elementary's Invention Night on February 28. The event's goal was to empower students to make meaningful contributions to the world, using Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics. It's aim was also to provide access points for guiding and exciting student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. There were many hands-on activities, demonstrations, and experiments. Some companies brought technology for students and parents to view, and learn how technology impacts the world. This was our first year participating in this event, and we were asked to showcase a demonstration illustrating the importance of proper hand washing techniques. Our demonstration sessions began with a Patient First nurse leading students to cover their hands with a special "Glo Germ" solution.  That solution would light up as a black light was passed over their hands. Next, the nurse had the students wash their hands as they normally would. A second pass of the black light showed the students the germs all the little blotches and crevices where the solution remained, illustrating how germs could still linger on their hands.   McIntosh Elementary School Rhythm and Wellness Night

  McIntosh Elementary School, located in Newport News, VA, hosted its inaugural Rhythm and Wellness Concert, Bookfair, and Fitness Night on February 29th. Led by the incredible talents of the school's second and third graders, students and their families sang, read, danced, drummed, stretched and learned as they embraced the beat, ignited their fitness journey, and delved into the world of literature all in one unforgettable night. Around every corner of the school was an activity to participate in. Patient First, who was positioned in the front of the school, offered parents, teachers and administrators free blood pressure screenings, many of whom took advantage of the opportunity.  The school itself is a bilingual school. Approximately, 15% of their student population is Hispanic. Each activity for the evening was offered in both English and Spanish. Many of the families who attended the event were not aware of Patient First, despite our Denbigh center being approximately 1 mile from the school.   Things Are Blooming At Uwchlan Hills Elementary School's Garden Club

  What started as an Eagle Scout project and construction of flower boxes at Uwchlan Hills Elementary School in Downingtown, PA has grown into something much larger. Through a monetary gift from Patient First, this project continues to bloom and grow, with harvests produced throughout the year benefitting the school's "Helping Hands" families as well as the Chester County Food Bank. Each season 40 to 50 students in first, second and third grades participate in "Garden Club" where they hear gardening stories, assist with planting, weeding, watering and cutting flowers for bouquets. They also help with weighing and bagging veggies the garden produces at harvest time. School principal Robert Giering along with two faculty advisors, Ms. Kate Cool (second grade teacher), and Ms. Alicia Reiner (first grade teacher) lead the project from school staff. School families and parent volunteers also help the program continue to thrive. Two parents have been particularly instrumental with this project - Heather Landgarden and Ali Bruenderman.   Bowie Baysox Eras Night

  There was plenty of Bad Blood between the Bowie Baysox and the Richmond Flying Squirrels Friday night, as the minor league teams engaged in a slugfest as the Baysox hosted Eras Night for the fans. In keeping with the theme of the night, many of the people who came out to the game arrived decked out in their best Taylor Swift gear, Bejeweled with their friendship bracelets and other fan paraphernalia. Plenty of people stopped by our table to say Thank You (Aimee was not there), for the services we provide. So many, in fact, that we struggled to keep there from being too much Blank Space on our table, as they snatched up our promotional items, including branded stress ball baseballs.  The night was quite  the display of offense, with more than 22 runs scored between both teams, resulting in a final score of 17-10, with the Squirrels as the victor.   Community Partners: Nitrauer Elementary School

  Every year, Patient First selects two elementary schools near each of its 77 centers as a community partner in an effort to further support the health and growth of neighborhood it serves. Our partnership begins with a donation to the school to fund projects or programs that directly benefit the students of each of our partner schools, but it doesn't end there. We continue to engage with the faculty, students and parents at each of these schools through community events like back-to-school nights, family resource nights, health and wellness fairs, school fun runs, and even fall and spring festivals. This week, we are showcasing Nitrauer Elementary as our Partner School of the Week. Located just minutes from our Lancaster center, Nitrauer has been a committed partner with Patient First for several years. This year, Patient First will be helping Nitrauer Elementary fund student assemblies, and a program of lunches recognizing good student behavior, culminating in a recognition of outstanding students for each quarter.
